Clay is a form of soil, specifically it’s grain sizes succulents in wooden boxes are too small to be seen with the naked eye, and has “clay minerals” which are aluminium phyllosilicates. It’s quite similar to silt, except the grains are a bit finer and silt doesn’t have clay minerals. Clay generally forms by chemical weathering of rocks over a very long time. That means that rocks get broken down by water that has carbonic acid and other solvents diluted in it.
